• What are OPCs?

• What is a free radical?

  A free radical is a molecule with an unpaired electron in its outermost shell, making them highly unstable. These unpaired electrons tend to be highly reactive, resulting in chemical reactions such as oxidation. They scavenge the body to grab or donate electrons, impacting cells, proteins and DNA. Free radicals are naturally occurring; however, air pollution, stress, smoking, heavy exercise and aging all contribute to the creation of harmful free radicals. Free radicals can cause oxidative stress in the body. Normally, the body can protect itself from free radicals, but if antioxidants are unavailable or if free radical production becomes excessive, oxidation can occur.

• What are antioxidants?

  Antioxidants are cell protectors, neutralizing free radicals by donating an electron to the outermost shell of unbalanced molecules, rendering them harmless. Antioxidants are nutrients — like vitamins and minerals — and enzymes that can counteract the effects of the physiological process of oxidation in bodily tissues. Antioxidants work in two ways: chain-breaking and prevention. Some chain-breaking antioxidants include vitamins A, C and E.

• What is a bioflavonoid?

  Bioflavonoids are complex organic plant compounds. Plants and fruits differ in colors based on the specific bioflavonoids they contain. • Why do the US and Taiwan versions of OPC-3 Burst list different calorie amounts on their packaging?

  The difference is due to how each country regulates nutrition labeling. In the US, calorie amounts are rounded to the nearest five, so a product with 12 calories would be listed as 10 calories. In Taiwan, there is no requirement to round, so the exact calorie count (such as 12 calories) is shown on the label.

• What does “dual-layer” mean in this formulation?

  “Dual-layer” refers to a structural and formulation design concept, in which different functional components are positioned in distinct layers to support controlled release behavior, ingredient stability and a consistent digestive handling process. This design does not imply sequential absorption, oral absorption or enhanced bioavailability.

• Why are fully hydrogenated palm oils used?

  Fully hydrogenated palm oil is included to support the unique dual-layer Burst delivery system. This technology is designed to protect the active ingredients while providing the texture, stability, and sensory experience of the product. Unlike partially hydrogenated palm oils, the fully hydrogenated palm oils used in OPC-3 Burst do not produce industrial trans fats. The health concerns historically associated with hydrogenated palm oils relate to partially hydrogenated palm oils, which contain industrially produced trans fats. OPC-3 Burst contains no partially hydrogenated palm oils.These lipid components are not included for their nutritional value. They are food technology components that allow the dual-layer Burst delivery system to function as intended by performing several important functions:
